This summer course provides an immersive archaeological excavation experience at a site near Voula, connected to the ancient deme of Aixonidai Halai in Attica. It includes three main components: on-site excavation, classroom lectures, and lab work, offering practical fieldwork experience within a broader historical context. Led by CYA Professor John Karavas and supervised by the Ephorate of Antiquities of Piraeus and the Islands, the program also includes visits to nearby archaeological sites and museums.
Students will engage in 60 contact hours of academic work, including on-site excavation, classroom lectures, and lab work; The curriculum is designed to provide a comprehensive introduction to archaeological fieldwork, supported by academic theory and historical context.
Visits to significant archaeological sites in Athens, such as the Acropolis, the Athenian Agora, and the National Archaeological Museum. These excursions complement the hands-on excavation experience and offer additional insights into ancient Greek history and culture.
Students are housed in CYA student apartments in the Pangrati neighborhood of Athens or in nearby hotel accommodations arranged by CYA.
