FUBiS is the International Summer and Winter University of Freie Universität Berlin, an intensive, short-term academic program that takes place three times a year: once in winter and twice in summer. Students can choose between German language courses and subject courses held in English and German that take place on-site in Berlin. Some courses in the summer terms can be combined with each other, allowing students to tailor their schedule according to their interests. For their achievements students receive ECTS credits which they may count toward their degrees at their home universities. Students from all over the world participate in FUBiS, creating an international environment which promotes the learning and use of intercultural competency skills. Participation in the FUBiS program is an academic, cultural and personal enrichment for students.
FUBiS offers intensive and semi-intensive German language classes on up to five different proficiency levels. In addition, the FUBiS program includes subject classes on various class topics, such as politics, history, law, economics or art. Most classes are held in English by distinguished German and international faculty. Field trips to various sights and sites in Berlin are an integral part of the curriculum to supplement classroom learning. Students can also combine two subject classes or one German and one subject class to make the most of their time at FUBiS.
Two field trips are included for all students: Visit the Reichstag, the German parliament, and participate in a boat trip on the river Spree (during the summer terms). Optionally, students can book field trips to other cities such as Leipzig and Potsdam or go on guided tours around Berlin.
There are multiple accommodation options offered by FUBiS! Students can stay with a host family to fully immerse themselves in the German environment. They can also choose a room in one of the shared flats at a student dormitory - making friends and an authentic student experience is guaranteed! A third alternative is a stay at The Social Hub or The Circus Living, two hotels in the city centre that provide amenities such as private bathrooms and (private or shared) kitchens.
