Summary

A week of mountain adventure in a chalet in Les Diablerets for children aged 9 to 13, in English and French, with friends from more than 30 countries.

Young Explorers Club's Junior Multisports Camp runs from Chalet Budokan in Les Diablerets, a mountain village in the Vaud Alps an hour from Lausanne. Children aged 9 to 13 choose a programme for the week, Adrenaline or Survival Academy.

Every afternoon three or four activities are on offer and each child picks one: climbing, mountain biking, kayaking, hikes, lake days and more. No experience is needed. Camps run in English and French, with about one leader for five children, and phones are kept safe so the week is lived, not filmed.

Children can stay one week or several: the programme changes from week to week. Price a week: CHF 1,480 for international participants and CHF 1,180 for Swiss residents (week of 4 July: CHF 1,570 / 1,250).

Evenings bring games, campfires and team challenges. Children are put in mixed teams from the first evening, across languages and ages, so those who come alone make friends fast. They also help with camp tasks such as cooking and cleaning, which is how a group becomes a team.

Academics

There are no school lessons: children learn by doing, in English and French, mixing with children from more than 30 countries. Leaders hold Swiss J+S qualifications and teach outdoor skills step by step, from climbing technique to the survival skills of fire, shelter, water and navigation. Optional language classes in English or French can be added at extra cost.

Course options

Adrenaline Programme
Each morning the child chooses the day's adventure (via ferrata, mountain karts, caving and more) or a morning with the climbing, football or survival group. Each afternoon they pick one of three or four activities, so every child builds the week they want.
Survival Academy
Every morning is a survival mission: a practical challenge outdoors, then the skill behind it - fire, shelter, water, navigation. Afternoons are multisports with the other juniors, and the survival campers sleep in tents by the forest next to the chalet.

A typical day

08:00 breakfast and morning briefing. 09:00 first activity block. 12:00 lunch and rest time. 14:00 second activity block. 17:00 free time or workshops. 19:00 dinner. 20:00 evening games, campfires and team challenges. Children help with camp tasks such as cooking and cleaning, and there is a call day every week to phone home.

More about Young Explorers Club

Young Explorers Club has run summer camps in Switzerland since 2018, from its base in Lausanne. Children and teenagers aged 9 to 17 spend one week or several in the Swiss Alps: in two chalets in Les Diablerets, or on travel camps by bike and on foot.

Camps run in English and French with campers from more than 30 countries and about one leader for five children. Every staff member is over 18 and provides a police record extract, and paid leaders hold Swiss Jeunesse+Sport (J+S) qualifications.

Phones are kept safe during the day, so the week is lived rather than filmed, and the programme changes from week to week for children who stay longer.
