Fashion buying is the commercial heart of the fashion business, where market insight, trend forecasting and negotiation come together. This four week, 100 hour short course in Milan teaches it by doing, through hands on buying simulations, live data analysis and case studies that put you in the buyer's seat, from buying through to line building.
You will learn to read the market, spot trends before they reach the mainstream, take strategic decisions and understand the relationship between branding, positioning and buying. Through immersive simulations, real buying scenarios and insight from working buyers, you will learn to negotiate, manage budgets and curate assortments that sell.
By the end you will be able to select the right collections, manage budgets and optimise the buying process, use data analysis tools to anticipate market trends, negotiate with suppliers and brands, and improve the profitability of purchasing operations. The course awards an official IIFM certificate.
This is the second edition. Teaching is entirely in English, with a bilingual Italian and English teaching assistant throughout. Applications close on 28 May 2027.

Fashion Business Models (10 hours) Introduction to the main business models that characterise the fashion system, the business logic underneath them, and the different positioning choices and strategies, through to their impact on how core processes are configured.
Markets & Trend Analysis (10 hours) Understanding the fashion market and its dynamics is essential to strategic buying decisions. This module gives you tools to analyse global trends, consumer behaviour, and the economic and cultural factors that shape the industry
Branding & Product Positioning (10 hours) A product succeeds when it meets market needs and communicates a clear, distinctive brand identity.
Field Project: Buying & Merchandising (20 hours) A practical project where you apply your learning to build a buying and merchandising strategy for a brand or retailer. Through market analysis, product selection and assortment planning you work on a real brief and present your strategic solution, with feedback from industry professionals.
IIFM's short courses are built around hands on projects, real world challenges and direct contact with leading fashion professionals, blending theory with practical simulations, company visits and networking.
On completion you join the IIFM alumni association, a global community of fashion professionals that opens up networking opportunities and career pathways.
Learning is flexible: you can attend on campus, join live online sessions, or work through recorded lessons at your own pace, and the modular structure lets you shape the experience around work or other commitments.
Accommodation is not included in the course fee, and IIFM Milano recommends arranging it a few weeks before arrival. For reference, a private room in a shared apartment in Milan usually costs between 500 € and 600 € a month, and landlords may ask for a deposit of one to three months' rent.
IIFM Milano offers two housing routes through partnerships. Homizy provides coliving spaces three metro stops from the campus, with coworking areas, shared lounges and a discount for enrolled students.
