For both Yale undergraduates and other applicants with instructor approval. Typically, participants are university-level students. Yale’s five-week Paris program offers an intensive, immersive academic experience for students with advanced French proficiency. Through a combination of classroom instruction, cultural excursions, and a homestay experience, students refine their language skills while exploring France's rich history and contemporary identity. Led by Yale faculty and hosted in one of Europe’s most iconic cities, the course blends language development with deep cultural engagement—from museum visits to regional trips—providing a transformative academic and personal journey.
Focused on oral communication, grammar, vocabulary, and advanced-level cultural analysis. Coursework includes readings, films, writing assignments, and structured discussions—all conducted in French.
Cultural programming includes guided walking tours, theatre outings, wine tasting, and multi-day trips to Normandy and Provence. These experiences enhance classroom learning and deepen cultural immersion.
Participants live with carefully selected French host families, with breakfast and dinner provided on weekdays. Homestays support language immersion and cultural exchange, and all homes are located within reasonable distance to the language school in Paris.
