Football camps range from club run academies with professional coaching staff to general sports camps where football is the most popular option. The distinction is worth making early, because the price gap between them is large and the coaching gap is often smaller than the price suggests.
For most children under thirteen, contact time and enjoyment matter more than the badge on the coach's tracksuit. For a serious teenage player, the value is in the standard of the other players: a camp is only as good as the games you get. Ask how the squads are picked.
If your child plays for a club, check the camp dates against pre season. A fortnight of hard training in the week before their own club starts back is not always the gift it looks like.

Sometimes. A club badge guarantees the facilities and the coaching qualifications, which is not nothing. It does not guarantee that first team coaches are on the grass, and most are not. Ask specifically who is coaching, not who the camp is affiliated with.
Boots and trainers both, shin pads, at least two changes of kit, and a water bottle. Most camps provide a training kit as part of the fee. Residential camps will send a full list; if the list does not mention wet weather kit, ask, because a British summer will find it out.
Yes, and there are considerably more than there were five years ago. Many mixed camps also run separate girls squads rather than integrating them. If that matters to you it is worth asking directly, as the websites are often vague about it.
